“Statewide Transit-Oriented Development
Study:
Factors for Success in California”
This major study was led by staff
of the California Department of Transportation, with input from
two advisory committees. It was approved for distribution in September
2002 by the State’s Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
The Final Report:
· Defines transit-oriented
development (TOD) and its successful components;
· Explores and summarizes the benefits of TOD, including
effects on travel;
· Provides an overview of TODs in the U.S. and California
(including 12 ‘profiles’);
· Determines what is working well to implement TOD in California;
· Identifies major barriers and impediments to the wider
implementation of TOD;
· Recommends 14 State actions to facilitate transit-oriented
development in California.
